I was reading hyperbole and a half’s blog entry explaining their experience of depression and decided to make another sketchy comic based on my experiences with anxiety, which is another mental illness I think people tend to misunderstand quite frequently
Hopefully this will be of use to some people - whether they suffer from anxiety themselves or if they just want to know more about it
It’s such a wonderful sketch you made! When I started seeing psychiatrist for Depression, she actually said the root of my depression came from my serious Anxiety Neurosis. For a long period of time it was like i was making the “pile” of worries that when it depresses me because for me everything, every time, every where is full of negative outcome, that I feared even to ask to go to the loo up to high school, or ask for an extra sheet of paper during exam..I had to think many many many times and rehearse what to do, what to say and picture a lot of outcome first, and in the end I couldn’t do it at all.
And you’re right.. People were supportive in the early stage as you open up, but after a while, they forgot our suffering is still the same as when we first opened up - and some times, it’s worst when a family member really yelled to your face for not being able to just “snap out of it!”. When they said those things, it worries us even more, thinking “omg why cant i snap out of it like she said? what if I cant handle it next time? She will be angry even more! She will say I didnt listen to her!” and it goes on and on.
